How to Create an Application Password for Yahoo Mail
To use Yahoo Mail SMTP server, you need to first create a dedicated application password. Previously, you could use your Yahoo Mail password, but Yahoo has updated this requirement to improve security. Now you need to generate a unique password for the app.
Fortunately, generating a password for the Yahoo Mail app is pretty straightforward. To get started, go to your account settings area and then click the Account Security tab.
You can access your account setup area by clicking on your username/index in the upper right corner. Or, you can click this link to go straight to the account's security area (provided you are already logged in to Yahoo Mail).
Then click on the Generate Application Password link under the Other Ways to Sign In section.
You should now see a popup. Go ahead and click the blue “Get start” button on the popup to proceed.
Enter your app name, which is just an internal name to help you remember it – for example, “WordPress” or “Thunderbird”. Label this correctly as this will help you remember the service the password connects to. Then click on the Generate password button.
