Microsoft's enforcement of MFA and recent changes to their authentication methods have caused issues with SMTP authentication. The only solution we have at this time is to create an App Password in Office 365. Instructions on how to do this are below.
Note that the below instructions implement the same changes that are required if you were to have your printer/scanner send outgoing mail via Office 365.
To enable sending of your emails via Office365 at this point in time (Nov 2022) you must perform the following functions in your Office 365 tenancy configuration. This will likely require you to engage your IT support team.
The easiest way to do this is in the section titled 'Use the Microsoft 365 admin center to enable or disable SMTP AUTH on specific mailboxes'.
Having Security Defaults enabled imposes a number of security rules which includes disabling any basic authentication. Basic authentication has to be enabled in order for SMTP sending to work.
The current version of the portal interface is slightly different to that described in the linked Microsoft documentation.
In your Microsoft 365 portal, go to My Account and click on Security Info. The 'Add sign-in method' and select the App Password method.
